For this project, we performed a complete analysis of the wheelchair’s supporting structure and designed its reinforcement. The structure is an aluminium welded frame made of round tubes and contains steel and stainless steel details.
In order to analyse such a special design, it was necessary to develop our own special methodology for loading the trolley. For example, we developed our own biomechanical model of a human being for the most accurate application of the load of the human body’s own weight and inertia. Special models for wheels, tyres and wheel hubs were also developed.
Many different load situations were analysed; the trolley can be pulled behind a bicycle or manoeuvred using a handle, and the rear wheels are equipped with brakes.
A detailed analysis made it possible to identify weaker points in the structure as a whole and weaker structural details, and to propose appropriate reinforcement.
